Jammu, June 25: In preparation for the upcoming AmarnathYatra and to ensure smooth and safe passage for pilgrims and other travelers, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has stepped up its monsoon readiness along the crucial Jammu–Srinagar National Highway, particularly in landslide-prone zones.

Parshotam Kumar, Project Officer, NHAI, a strategic deployment plan has been put in place involving six JCB machines at each landslide-prone site along the highway, supported by advanced earth-moving equipment and trained manpower.

“Advanced machinery and adequate manpower have been deployed at all vulnerable stretches of the highway, especially to tackle landslides and debris clearance during the rainy season,” he said.

Special focus is being laid on the Ramban stretch, which has historically been the most affected section due to frequent landslides and disruptions throughout the year—intensified during monsoons.

Besides Ramban, similar arrangements have been made across other critical points on the highway to ensure round-the-clock clearance and maintenance, sources added. Technically qualified teams are on standby to respond promptly to any eventuality caused by heavy rains or sliding terrain.

The NHAI’s proactive measures aim not only to facilitate uninterrupted vehicular movement during the annual Amarnath pilgrimage but also to keep the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway functional year-round, a crucial lifeline for the Union Territory.

The 2025 AmarnathYatra is set to begin on July 3, and with thousands of pilgrims expected to traverse the mountainous route, ensuring road safety and minimal disruption remains a top priority for the administration.
