Kulgam My 24: MLA Kulgam, M.Y. Tarigami, Saturday inaugurated the district-level inter-zonal Chess and Yoga competitions for Under-14 and Under-17 boys and girls at the Sports Stadium in Kulgam. The event was attended by esteemed dignitaries, including the Worthy DDC Chairperson, Mohd Afzal Parray, the Assistant Commissioner of Revenue (ACR) Kulgam, Reyaz Ahmad Shah, DDC member Mohd Abas Rather, Principal of GHSS Kulgam, Bashir Ah Bhat, and representatives from various departments.
During his inaugural address, Tarigami underscored the critical role of sports in contemporary society, emphasizing their value in fostering discipline, teamwork, and holistic development. He commended the Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Department for creating robust platforms to engage youth across the Union Territory, particularly in Kulgam, through such initiatives. Furthermore, he urged the department to expand the frequency of such events, highlighting their potential to divert young minds from detrimental influences like drug addiction and substance abuse. By encouraging active participation in sports and wellness activities, Tarigami reiterated the importance of nurturing a healthy, productive, and morally grounded generation.
