Srinagar, Sept 17: The digital interventions in the Universal Immunization Program are proving a game changer all across Jammu and Kashmir with registrations increasing day by day, officials said.
Earlier this year after the success of Co-WIN platform, the Union Government replicated it to set up an electronic registry for routine vaccinations and it named U-WIN, to digitise India’s Universal Immunisation Program (UIP) and it was launched in pilot mode across the country.
Dr Tabasum Jabeen, Director Family Welfare, MCH and Immunization, J&K said earlier the digitization was started as a pilot project in two districts one each in Kashmir (Pulwama) and Jammu (Samba) and now it has been extended across all districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Till date we have registered more than one lakh children and pregnant women on UWIN and the registration continues and it is expected to increase,” she said.
Dr Tabasum said the digital interventions in the immunization program are proving helpful for the beneficiaries including pregnant women and children from 0-5 year age group.
“Now, when a pregnant woman delivers a child, the delivery as well as the newborn is registered online for the Universal Immunization Program through mobile number on the Aadhaar Card,” she said.
There will be digital registrations of all pregnant women and newborns for individualized tracking for vaccination, reminders for upcoming doses and follow-up of dropouts.
The Director Family Welfare said the registered beneficiaries get the messages on the due date and they can do the vaccination anywhere in the country and the vaccination record would be saved online in their e-cards and e-vaccination certificates.
“Now the beneficiaries no longer need to carry vaccination cards of children and pregnant women, struggling to keep a tab on the next jab,” she added.
The Director Family Welfare with the integration of technology into vaccination programs, citizens now have easier access to vaccination appointments, real-time tracking of immunization records, and timely reminders for follow-up doses through mobile apps and online portals.
“This has not only improved the efficiency of the healthcare system but has also reduced the burden of paperwork. Additionally, it has enhanced transparency, enabling beneficiaries to make informed decisions about their immunization schedules, ultimately contributing to higher vaccination rates and better public health outcomes across the country,” she said.
Health officials said as the beneficiaries are registered on U-WIN, they no longer need to ask people about the dates of vaccinations as now everything is visible via mobile phones.
“Now beneficiaries can book a slot for vaccination sessions or can also directly go to the nearby health facility irrespective of the places,” they said.
Notably, the immunization under the Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 5.0 is also done utilizing the U-WIN platform, enabling tracking of immunization schedules and downloading e-certificates.
