Srinagar, Feb 28: In light of the adverse weather conditions affecting the region, the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) on Friday announced the postponement of exams for classes 10, 11, and 12 in the hard zone areas of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. These exams, originally scheduled for March 1 to March 3, 2025, will now be held later in the month.
Sudershan Kumar, Secretary of JKBOSE, confirmed that the exams for Classes 10 and 11, which were to take place on March 1 and March 3, will now be rescheduled for March 25, while the Class 12 exam set for March 1 will be conducted on March 24. Despite the rescheduling, the time and venue for the exams will remain unchanged.
Meanwhile, the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) in Awantipora also announced the postponement of its first-semester examinations, originally set for February 28, 2025. The controller of examinations at IUST stated that fresh dates for these exams will be notified later.
In a related development, the School Education Department (SED) of Jammu and Kashmir declared an extension of winter vacations for schools in the Kashmir Valley and winter zones of the Jammu Division. Originally scheduled to end on March 1, the winter break will now last until March 6, with schools reopening on March 7, 2025.
Sakina Itoo, Minister for School Education, confirmed the extension via her official X (formerly Twitter) account, attributing the decision to the ongoing weather conditions in the region. “In response to the prevailing weather, schools up to the higher secondary level will now reopen on March 7, 2025,” Itoo wrote.
