Ganderbal, June 25: Ahead of the commencement of the annual Amarnath Yatra, Cabinet Minister Satish Sharma on Wednesday assured that all necessary arrangements are being finalized to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage for devotees.
Addressing the media after a detailed review meeting with officials in Sonamarg, the Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to making the Yatra seamless, even amid recent challenges.
“Despite the last six to seven weeks being particularly challenging, the administration has worked tirelessly to ensure that pilgrims face no inconvenience,” Sharma said. “Under the leadership of Omar Abdullah, the government is determined to provide a warm welcome and a secure environment for all yatris.”
The Minister chaired a high-level review meeting with local officials to oversee preparations ranging from transportation and shelter to food supplies and healthcare services. He said the administration has made arrangements to handle any possible weather-related disruptions, and coordination between various departments is being streamlined to address on-the-spot concerns.
According to Sharma, over three to four lakh pilgrims have already registered for the Yatra, and the government is fully prepared to facilitate on-the-spot registrations as well. He noted that the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has been directed to provide immediate support wherever transport services are required. “Free bus services are already being provided to women,” he added.
In a strong message aimed at strengthening public resolve, Sharma appealed to the people to participate in large numbers. “If we truly want to give a befitting reply to the enemy, then mass participation in the Yatra is the strongest response we can offer,” he asserted.
The annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath shrine, located in the Himalayas, attracts hundreds of thousands of devotees each year. With the Yatra set to begin soon, the government’s assurances aim to boost public confidence and ensure that this year’s pilgrimage proceeds smoothly and safely.
