Sopore, Feb 12: Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Conference Senior Vice President and former minister Abdul Gani Vakil on Monday called for strengthening the party at the grassroots level.
Speaking at a party workers’ convention in Madina Bagh Sopore, Vakil, according to a statement, highlighted the party’s dedication to preserving democratic principles and combating the dynastic politics of the region. He criticized the traditional parties for failing to represent the people’s aspirations in the Parliament.
Vakil called upon party workers to intensify their efforts in understanding and addressing local issues, working diligently towards a better and prosperous future for Jammu & Kashmir. “The upcoming parliamentary elections are a critical opportunity to elect credible representatives who truly stand for the people’s interests,” he said.
The convention also saw the passing of two resolutions addressing pressing local concerns. The first resolution shed light on the challenges faced by the fruit industry in Sopore, particularly the lack of technological infrastructure like juice factories and cold storage facilities in the fruit mandis. The resolution expressed serious concern over the current UT government’s failure to support the industry’s development and called for the waiver of KCC loans, a promise made on multiple occasions.
The second resolution, the statement said, tackled the pervasive issue of unemployment among the youth, demanding a comprehensive package to address this crisis. The resolution also highlighted the alarming trend of youth being drawn towards drug abuse, marking it as a dangerous problem that requires immediate attention.
Other senior leaders including Kh Bashir Ahmed Malla, Fayaz Ahmed Naikoo, Ghulam Hassan War, YJKPC President Sopore also spoke at the convention, reinforcing the party’s commitment to addressing the needs and aspirations of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
