Srinagar, July 02:
In a recent development, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have categorically denied allegations of lathi charge on AmarnathYatris, asserting that the claims are baseless and fabricated. Instead, officials emphasized that the police had cleared the way for an ambulance, ensuring the timely transportation of a critical patient, thus saving a life.
The response from the police came after a one-minute video circulated on social media, alleging that the police had resorted to lathi charge against the yatris at Manigam, en route to Srinagar after their visit to the Amarnath Cave.
A police officer stationed in Ganderbal dismissed the video as misinformation, stating, “The news of the alleged lathi charge on yatris is entirely false and devoid of any truth.” The officer referred to a traffic advisory previously issued to the public, stipulating that no yatri or tourist vehicle would be allowed to proceed beyond the designated cut-off time, when the road opening party (ROP) is withdrawn. These vehicles would instead be directed to the nearest designated safe location, prioritizing the safety and security of the tourists and yatris.
According to the police officer, during the implementation of the cut-off, some individuals obstructed the National Highway, insisting on being allowed to proceed further. In the midst of this situation, an ambulance carrying a critically ill patient was halted. The police requested cooperation from the crowd and urged them to let the ambulance pass through.
In the interest of the patient’s life, the police took swift action to clear the way for the ambulance, ensuring the patient’s timely access to medical care. The officer denounced the individuals responsible for spreading false information and attempting to tarnish the image of the police force. He warned that such news outlets disseminating fake and fabricated news would face legal consequences.
Asserting the police force’s commitment to the safety and security of yatris, the officer stated, “Traditionally, the police have warmly welcomed yatris and have been dedicated to their well-being. The question of misconduct does not arise.”
The officer emphasized that vehicles would not be allowed beyond the road deployment of security forces, highlighting the responsibility to prevent any untoward incidents. The safety and security of every yatri visiting the Amarnath Cave pilgrimage remain non-negotiable, he added.
As the AmarnathYatra continues, the Jammu and Kashmir Police reaffirm their unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and security of the yatris, dismissing any allegations of mistreatment.
