Srinagar, July 02:
In response to the escalating number of tourists and yatris visiting the Srinagar International Airport, authorities have recently installed three additional X-ray machines for efficient baggage screening, according to officials.
JavedAnjum, the Director of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) at Srinagar airport, revealed that the new X-ray machines, along with the necessary infrastructure, have been introduced at the drop gate of the airport. With these new additions, the airport now boasts a total of 10 X-ray machines, significantly expediting the process of baggage and passenger vehicle clearance. Consequently, the movement of vehicles in queues before the drop gate will be expedited, leading to reduced processing times.
Anjum emphasized that the surge in tourist footfall, particularly due to the ongoing AmarnathYatra, necessitated the installation of the additional X-ray machines. “We hope that these measures will help further reduce time gaps and alleviate congestion at the airport,” he stated.
Highlighting the commitment to enhancing travelers’ experience, the Director mentioned that there are plans for future projects aimed at creating a more user-friendly and seamless environment at the airport.
The AmarnathYatra, which commenced on Saturday, witnessed a staggering registration of over 3.25 lakh pilgrims this year. In 2022, the month of July witnessed the highest number of flight operations at Srinagar International Airport, with over 3,400 flights recorded in total. Notably, Jammu and Kashmir received a record-breaking 1.88 crore tourists in 2022, and the administration of the Union Territory is optimistic that this year’s arrivals will surpass the two crore mark.
As Srinagar Airport continues to adapt to the growing influx of tourists, these recent security enhancements serve as a testament to the authorities’ commitment to ensuring the safety and convenience of travelers.
