Srinagar, Aug 10: A terrorist hurled a handgrenade, while breaking a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO), injuring four persons, including two security personnel at Athlan Gadole in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district during the wee hours of Thursday.
The terrorist hurled the grenade towards a joint party of security forces. The injured were moved to a nearby medical facility for immediate treatment. “Among the wounded, two were security personnel, while the other two were civilians. Their condition has been reported as stable,” police said. A police officer said security forces promptly cordoned off the area and initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading up to the explosion. “We have been working tirelessly to apprehend the fleeing terrorist, with a promise to track down the individual responsible for the attack,” he said.
The officer said that they had received prior intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area. The assailant took advantage of darkness to make a swift escape after hurling the grenade, he said.
Senior police officers immediately arrived at the scene of the terror incident. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and the investigation is currently underway, police said.  “As the search operation continues, we urge the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and security of the area,” he added.
