Srinagar, Aug 10: A joint team of security forces on Thursday busted a terror module in Churunda Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla and apprehended three terror associates of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), police officials said.
A police officer told Rising Kashmir that a team of police along with the Army in Baramulla busted a terror module and recovered incriminating materials, arms and ammunition from their possession.
He further said that during joint patrolling and area domination exercise in Churunda Uri, a joint team of Baramulla Police and Army (16 SIKHLI) noticed a suspicious person who attempted to flee upon spotting the patrolling party.
“Following that, the suspect was apprehended tactfully. He has been identified as Showkat Ali Awan, a resident of Churunda Uri,” he said.
The police officer said that during the search, two handgrenades were recovered from his possession. Subsequently, Karim was shifted to police station where he was put under sustained questioning, he said.
“During questioning, he disclosed the names of his accomplices as Ahmad Din son of Shukur Din and Mohammad Sadeeq Khatana son of Umer Din, both residents of Churunda Uri, who were subsequently arrested,” he said.
The police officer said that on their disclosure, two grenades, one chinese pistol, one pistol magazine, four live rounds and other incriminating materials were recovered from their possession. He said that arrested terrorist associates were also involved in cross-border smuggling of arms and ammunition at the behest of Pakistan-based terror handlers. They also further their distribution to LeT terrorists for carrying out terror activities in the region, the official said. Meanwhile, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Uri and an investigation has been initiated in this matter.
