Srinagar, Oct 22: In a stringent crackdown on cross border terror, security forces foiled a major infiltration attempt by killing two terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district during Saturday night.
The officials revealed that a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the spot.
PRO (Defence), Srinagar Lt. Col MK Sahu said that an infiltration bid has been foiled by Security Forces in Uri Sector, Baramulla on Saturday night.
“Based on specific inputs from Intelligence agencies and JK Police of possible infiltration in the Uri Sector by heavily armed terrorists from across the LoC, troops were put on a high alert and the counter infiltration grid was strengthened,” he said.
Lt. Col Sahu said taking advantage of bad weather marked by incessant rainfall and poor visibility, a group of armed terrorists attempted to infiltrate across the LoC.
“At around 3 pm, the group was intercepted by alert troops resulting in heavy exchange of fire. Intense fire-fight continued till last light resulting in elimination of two terrorists,” he said adding that the balance terrorists withdrew to enemy side of LoC along with the bodies of dead terrorists.
“The area was kept under surveillance throughout the night. Sunday, a thorough search of the incident site was conducted leading to the identification of tell-tale signs and recovery of heavy war like stores,” the Defence PRO said.
Meanwhile, forces recovered two AK series rifles, six pistols, four Chinese grenades, blankets and two blood stained bags containing Pakistani and Indian currency notes, Pakistani medicines and eatables, he said.
“As per own assessment, recovery of two blood stained bags confirms that at least two terrorists were grievously injured forcing them to shed their load and flee across LoC,” Lt Col Sahu said.
He said due to inclement weather conditions, search operation is suspended, which will resume on opening up of weather. Operation under progress, Defence PRO said.
Earlier on Sep 30, two foreign terrorists were killed and foiled a major infiltration bid along LoC in Kumkadi sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
