Srinagar, Mar05:In anticipation of Prime Minister NarendraModi’s upcoming visit to Srinagar on March 07, security has been substantially beefed up across Srinagar and other regions of Kashmir as a precautionary measure, according to officials.
A police official at Police Headquarters informed Rising Kashmir that security has been intensified in Srinagar and adjacent areas ahead of the PM’s visit on Thursday.
“A high-level meeting concerning PM Modi’s security arrangements was convened in Srinagar, attended by heads of various agencies. Specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been devised for the arrangements and will be implemented accordingly until March 07,” the official stated.
He further detailed, “Additional police and paramilitary forces have been deployed at strategic locations, including Airport Road to Bakhi Stadium. Enhanced surveillance through CCTV, checkpoints, and frisking stations are operational as part of security protocols.”
The official emphasized the deployment of Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel in the city to monitor any suspicious activities. J&K Police Commandos, along with CRPF personnel, have been stationed around Bakshi Stadium to preempt any untoward incidents.
“Nakas and checkpoints will continue to operate along major highways in the Valley as a precautionary measure to avert any potential incidents,” the official continued.
He added, “Every vehicle entering Kashmir at Qazigund is being thoroughly checked. Special teams are deployed at vital junctions to thwart any untoward incidents. We are on high alert.”
In Srinagar, police and paramilitary forces have erected barricades at various locations and in other major towns to conduct vehicle searches.
“Random searches of cars and motorcycles are being conducted to thwart any subversive plans by terrorists,” he affirmed.
As part of security measures for the PM’s visit, a four-tier security cover has been established around Bakshi Stadium.
Regarding participation in the rally, the official stated that employees of certain departments have been directed to attend the rally, while 90 percent of the stadium will be occupied by the general public. Ample space is available, and coordination with party leadership is underway to verify the backgrounds of participants.
