Ramban, Oct 20: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Ramban district on Thursday claimed to have arrested five over ground workers (OGWs) for their alleged involvement in anti-national activities.
A senior police official said that the accused were detained on the orders of district magistrate Ramban after police prepared a dossier of their involvement in anti-national activities.
Police have identified the detained OGWs as Nazir Ahmad Pala, Usman, Firdous Ahmad Khan, Abdul Hamid Khan and Anyatullah Wani, all residents of Banihal Tehsil in Ramban district.
Confirming the detention, SSP Ramban Mohita Sharma told Rising Kashmir that some of the detained OGWs were active for the past one year while others were active for the past two to three years.
“They were all working for their commanders based in Pakistan. But none of them have carried out any major attack so far,” the SSP Ramban said.
“They have no previous crime record,” the officer added.
The region of Udhampur, Reasi and Ramban has been witnessing an increase in terror related incidents over the past few years.
Earlier in June this year, three people including the mastermind Mohammad Ramzan Sohil of Halla Bohar Dhar, Ramban, were arrested for their alleged involvement in planting a sticky bomb outside court complex in Udhampur, which led to the killing of one person and injuries to 14 others.
