Baramulla, Sep 25: The residents of Hygam (B) area in Sopore have raised concerns over the “lack of development” in their locality, highlighting issues ranging from drinking water shortages to crumbling infrastructure.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, the local residents emphasised their struggles with inadequate access to drinking water, subpar drainage facilities, and deteriorating road conditions in the area. They expressed frustration at what they perceive as continuous neglect by successive governments, lamenting the lack of attention to their concerns.
Muzamil Ahmad, a local resident, said that Chattipora, a prominent part of Hygam, has remained devoid of development for years. “We have felt marginalized and deceived by so-called leaders and PRI (Panchayati Raj Institutions) members, who only seem to acknowledge our existence during election seasons. Otherwise, our village of Chattipora Hygam B remains largely ignored,” he said.
The authorities had reportedly promised road macadamisation to address the infrastructure issues, but residents claim no progress has been made in this regard. They also highlighted a pressing health concern, asserting that they are compelled to consume contaminated and unhygienic water due to a lack of clean water sources.
Local residents also criticised the apparent lack of effort by relevant departments to alleviate their difficulties. They have urged the administration led by the Lieutenant Governor to intervene and address their genuine demands.
