Kargil, Mar 14: Patients in the Kargil district of Ladakh are facing severe problems due to the frequent breakdown of the computerized tomography (CT) scan machine at the district hospital. Although a new 300-bed hospital was built in the district to provide better medical facilities for the people, the CT Scan machine has been idle for the last ten days, causing significant difficulties for patients.
Sources reported that the hospital also lacks an MRI facility, forcing doctors to refer patients to other hospitals. This situation contradicts the big claims made by the UT Ladakh Administration to provide better medical facilities to patients.
In response to the situation, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kargil, Dr. Munawar Wazir, has assured that the CT scan machine will be repaired soon at the district hospital, and he has written to higher authorities to provide an MRI facility as well. Social activist Sajjad Kargili has also appealed to LG Ladakh to arrange an additional CT scan and an MRI machine for the district hospital.
The Kargil hospital is the biggest health facility in the district, treating patients with trauma and those injured in accidents. However, it has lacked an MRI facility despite demands for several years. In addition to an MRI machine, the hospital needs a Sarai to accommodate patients coming from far-flung areas for treatment.
Overall, the current situation at the district hospital in Kargil highlights the urgent need for better medical facilities, including functioning CT and MRI machines and sufficient accommodation for patients.
