Srinagar, July 23: Srinagar was left in shock and disbelief as a horrifying incident unfolded in the heart of the city after Srinagar Police arrested a man in the Botakadal area for the murder of his mother-in-law.
The tragic incident came to light when the police post at Lal Bazar received distressing information about a woman named Saleema, wife of Late Muhammad Qasim and a resident of Gulshan Bagh, Botakadal. She had been brutally assaulted by her son-in-law, resulting in her death.
The accused has been identified by police as Shabir Ahmed Bhat, son of Abdul Salaam Bhat, hailing from the Pattan area of Baramulla. Shabir had been married to Saleema’s daughter and had been residing in his in-laws’ house for a certain period, Srinagar police said in a tweet.
Immediately after the incident was reported, the police launched an intensive investigation, registering a case under FIR number 45/2023 under Section 302 IPC at the Lal Bazar police station. Shabir Ahmed Bhat, aware of the gravity of his crime, attempted to evade arrest, but the police worked tirelessly to apprehend him, eventually succeeding in bringing him into custody.
While the motive behind the heinous act remains under investigation. The people of Srinagar expressed their profound shock and grief over the tragic death of Saleema, demanding swift and stringent action against the accused.
Srinagar has seen a rise in criminal activities in recent times, but the police have been proactive in implementing measures to curb such incidents and ensure the safety and security of its citizens.
