The Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, on Saturday said the smart city projects would be completed within a stipulated time. He stated that the city’s residents will be inconvenienced a bit over the next two months.
Bidhuri stated that all the projects would be completed before the April deadline. The work on these projects is going on in double shifts, and the next two months are crucial in view of the proposed G20 meeting in Srinagar.
“We began working before it was suggested that the G20 convene in Srinagar, but now that it has been suggested that it take place here, it has helped us because we have begun working in double shifts. He assured that the projects would now be completed on time.
The project’s budget of Rs 3000 crore includes Rs 2000 crore for line departments, which work on a number of projects with Smart City Ltd. The budget for Smart City Limited is approximately Rs 1,000 crore.
Together with the area-based development programme, the smart city project is also working on a few pan-city initiatives, such as improvements to select highways and urban mobility, which includes public transportation options all throughout the city.
According to the Smart City Program of the Indian government, the federal government would give a chosen city Rs 500 crore over the course of five years, and the state or union territory would give an equal sum within the same time frame.
The remaining projects, totaling Rs 2000 crore, are being completed under convergence with line departments, which would have already taken on those tasks, while Srinagar receives approximately Rs 1000 crore from both sources.
The Smart Cities Mission was launched by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on June 25, 2015, for development of 100 Smart Cities across the country. The Mission is an urban renewal and retrofitting program by the Government of India with the mission to develop smart cities across the country, making them citizen friendly and sustainable.
