Budgam, Oct 07: During the past eight days, one individual has been killed, and three others injured in the incidents of human animal conflict in Beerwah and Khag areas of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Two days ago, two residents from the Sitharan area of the Khag were injured after a wild bear attacked them.
On September 30, 2024, a minor was killed by a leopard in the Najan area of Beerwah during the evening hours at the 7HD Brick kiln in the vicinity.
Similarly, on October 1, another minor sustained injuries in a leopard attack at a brick kiln located in Dhansura village of the Beerwah tehsil.
Moreover, two days ago, a sheep was killed by a leopard in Pethkoot village of Beerwah tehsil.
In Drager village, two sheep were killed and another injured following an attack by a wild bear.
An official from the wildlife department told Rising Kashmir that after the increase in incidents of man animal conflict in the subdivision Beerwah, the wildlife teams have been deployed at all places and cages have been installed in the areas where these incidents have occurred to capture these wild animals without any further loss of human life.
“The wildlife teams are conducting search operations round the clock to ensure that wild animals can be trapped alive. If any wild animal is sighted in any part of Budgam district, the public is urged to contact the wildlife department so that we can capture these animals without any harm,” the official stated.
“We have installed more than 25 cages across the Budgam district. The public must adhere to the wildlife advisory that has already been disseminated,” he added.
