SRINAGAR, NOV 08: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today distributed appointment orders to 325 newly selected Medical Officers at a ceremony held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC). Among them, 26 Medical Officers received their orders directly from the Chief Minister, recognizing their new roles in the region’s healthcare system.
The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, Minister for Health and Medical Education Sakeena Masood, MP Agha Ruhullah Mehdi, and senior administrative officials, highlighting the significance of this development in the healthcare sector.
In his address, the Chief Minister announced the formulation of a new Health Policy aimed at addressing the healthcare needs of rural areas. The policy will focus on bridging existing gaps and ensuring better access to essential health services in remote communities. By prioritizing rural healthcare, the government aims to provide timely, quality care and reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for treatment.
Omar Abdullah also expressed optimism about the ongoing AIIMS Kashmir project, urging its swift completion to enhance the region’s healthcare infrastructure. He wished the newly appointed Medical Officers success, urging them to approach their duties with dedication and a focus on public service.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by the healthcare sector, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for an accessible and well-staffed healthcare system, especially in rural and town areas, where minor procedures are often referred to major hospitals due to a lack of local resources.
