Srinagar, May 12: In anticipation of the LokSabha elections scheduled for tomorrow, Jammu and Kashmir has heightened its security measures to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of polling activities in the Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Kashmir range, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, said that a comprehensive security plan has been enacted, adhering to the guidelines set forth by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, IGP Birdi emphasized the commitment of the police administration to facilitate a seamless electoral process throughout the Kashmir province. He assured that Para Military forces, J&K armed police, and police constabulary have been strategically deployed.
IGP said arrangements have been made to provide a safe and secure environment so that the electorate can exercise their franchise in large numbers.
“At all polling stations, paramilitary forces, Quick Response Teams (QRT’s), ROP’s, checkpoints (Naka), as well as Special Security District (SSD) and Field Security District (FSD) personnel have been deployed to ensure smooth polling during the day,” IGP Birdi said.
Acknowledging the significance of these elections as a festival of democracy, IGP Birdi conveyed strict instructions to all district Superintendents of Police (SPs) to ensure the event’s success. Measures have been meticulously implemented to foster a safe and secure environment, enabling the electorate to exercise their voting rights without hindrance.
Similarly in other segments of Srinagar PC, Police, CAPF’s and security forces have been deployed at polling stations as well as distribution centres and strong rooms across the Srinagar LokSabha constituency which includes entire districts of Srinagar, Ganderbal, Pulwama and parts of Budgam and Shopian districts.
The polling for the fourth phase will be held across 2,135 polling stations in 1,323 locations. Around 2700 vehicles have been deployed by the administration for successful and smooth conduct of these elections.
The polling in the Srinagar PC shall be held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and shall continue till the last voter cast his ballot.
A total of 17,47,810 voters are eligible to cast their vote. All the polling stations in the parliamentary constituency will have CCTV type cameras for live webcasting. The Polling shall be viewed live from the district headquarters as well as from the Central Command Centers established at Jammu and Srinagar.
