Jammu, Nov 22: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and MLA Bahu, Vikram Randhawa on Friday met with a delegation of JKP constable aspirants who urged him to address the issue of age relaxation in the ongoing recruitment process.
The aspirants have approached the MLA and pointed out that the last JKP constable recruitment was held in 2016, and after an eight-year gap, the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has announced recruitment for 4,002 constable positions, a statement issued by the MLA’s office said.
“However, despite this prolonged delay, the upper age limit has remained fixed at 28 years, leaving many hopeful candidates ineligible. The aspirants urged Randhawa to help raise the age limit to 32 years, in line with similar recruitment processes across the country,” the statement said.
The aspirants further pointed out that many government bodies, including the SSC, Railways, Uttar Pradesh Government, and the UT of Ladakh, have extended age relaxations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, no such relaxations have been announced by the Jammu and Kashmir Government for the JKP constable recruitment, according to the delegation.
Randhawa acknowledged the issue and expressed his support for the aspirants. He said, “It is an injustice to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir that the age criteria have remained unchanged after such a long gap in recruitment. The youth are eager to serve in the police force, but this age limit is preventing many eligible candidates from fulfilling their dreams.”
The MLA assured the aspirants that he would take up the matter with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and request that similar relaxations at par with other states should be extended to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. He said states like Uttar Pradesh had provided a three-year age relaxation in recruitments held after prolonged gaps, and he strongly advocated for the same in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The youth of Jammu are mentally and physically capable, and they deserve every possible support from the government to secure their futures. I will personally lead the delegation of aspirants to meet with the Lieutenant Governor to ensure that the aspirations of our youth are not thwarted due to an arbitrary age limit,” he added.
Randhawa asserted that the BJP stands with the youth of the Jammu region and is committed to ensuring that their aspirations are not hindered by outdated and unfair age limits. He expressed confidence that the issue would be resolved soon, providing the youth of Jammu with a fair chance to serve in the JKP constable recruitment process.
