Bandipora, Oct 29: Teachers stationed in remote areas of Zones 4 and 5 in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district have urged the Education Minister to expedite their transfer requests due to deteriorating weather conditions
Assigned under the 2023 Annual Transfer Drive (ATD), these teachers have completed their required year of service, with many filing transfer applications as early as July and August. However, delays in processing have left them still working in difficult terrains.
One of the teachers wished not to be named, said that the uncertainty about their transfers is adding to the stress, especially now that winter is setting in.
With each passing week, he said, conditions are becoming more difficult. Roads are often blocked, and supplies are limited, putting strain on daily routines and on the teachers themselves. “Winter in these areas is no small challenge,” he said. “We’re doing our best, but it’s tough, and we need relief.”
Teachers in Gurez, a particularly isolated part of Zone 5 said that while they understood the need to serve in remote regions, the prolonged wait for transfers is creating undue hardship. “We were committed to making a difference here, but we were also counting on the support of timely transfers. It’s time we get some clarity,” said another teacher.
Hoping for a quick response from the Education Minister, he said that these transfers are not just about convenience, but about balancing dedication with the reality of working conditions that can be harsh and unforgiving.
“We are hopeful that the government will recognize the unique challenges they face and act promptly to bring them closer to home”, he added.
