Akhnoor bus accident: CS visits GMC-J, inquires about health of accident victims

JAMMU, MAY 31:Chief Secretary AtalDulloo today visited the Government Medical College (GMC) in Jammu to personally inquire about the health condition of the injured from the Akhnoor bus accident.
Describing the incident as tragic and unfortunate, the Chief Secretary directed hospital authorities to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured, emphasizing the importance of their speedy recovery.
Expressing condolences for those who lost their lives in the road mishap, Dullooextended heartfelt sympathies to their families, affirming the government’s commitment to provide all necessary assistance to the accident victims. He assured that the injured would receive the highest quality medical care.
Additionally, the Chief Secretary instructed the administration to conduct a thorough investigation into the causes of the road accident, aiming to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Following preliminary investigations, the administration took swift action by suspending six officials from the Transport Department for their alleged dereliction of duty.
It is noteworthy that the tragic accident occurred when a bus carrying pilgrims to the Shiv Khori Shrine met with an accident in the Akhnoor area, resulting in the loss of 22 lives and injuries to many others.
Local authorities promptly initiated rescue operations, recovering all bodies and transporting the injured to GMC Jammu for necessary medical treatment.

 

6 Transport dept officials suspended for negligence
Following the tragic accident in Akhnoor, the Transport Department has taken stern action by suspending six officials for their alleged negligence.
The suspended officials include RanjeevBhasin, a motor vehicle inspector, SumitMagotra, a junior assistant, and multi-tasking staff (MTS) members AshwaniKumar, Aman Kumar, Keshav Singh, and Rakesh Kumar.
An inquiry into the conduct and performance of the suspended officials has been initiated, with Additional Secretary (Technical) Paramvir Singh appointed to lead the investigation. Singh is tasked with submitting a comprehensive report with recommendations within a week.
The official order states, “Pending inquiry into the conduct/dereliction of duties, the following officials posted in the office of Regional Transport Officer-Kathua (HQ Lakhanpur) are placed under suspension with immediate effect and are attached to the office of Transport Commissioner, J&K, Jammu.”
