Ganderbal, Feb 16: Following a recent heavy snowfall, Sonamarg has emerged as the quintessential tourist destination, drawing visitors from far and wide to experience its winter wonderland charm.
The once pristine landscape, now cloaked in a blanket of fresh snow, has become a magnet for tourists seeking exhilarating activities like sledge rides and snow skiing. Enamoured by the breathtaking scenery, travellers have bestowed upon Sonamarg the title of the ‘perfect trip’, with many declaring Kashmir to be nothing short of paradise.
Reports from the Tourism Department indicate a significant surge in tourist footfall, with January alone witnessing the arrival of approximately 53,000 visitors. Among them were 52,131 domestic tourists, 1,070 foreigners, and 858 locals, all eager to bask in the winter magic of Sonamarg.
In response to the influx of tourists, the Department of Tourism has rolled out various initiatives to further boost tourism in Sonamarg. Adventure activities such as skiing and ice skating have been actively promoted to entice more travelers to explore the region’s offerings.
One tourist from Gujarat expressed her joy at finally experiencing the snow, remarking, “Initially, I was disheartened by the absence of snow, but now that it’s here, I realize why Kashmir holds such allure.”
She also lauded the warmth and hospitality of the locals, pledging to make Kashmir an annual pilgrimage.
Echoing similar sentiments, Anuraj from Surat, Rajasthan, highlighted the awe-inspiring beauty of Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Doodhpathri, urging others to visit Kashmir at least once or twice a year to fully immerse themselves in its splendor.
