Srinagar, Mar 21: Persian New Year Navroz was celebrated with traditional fervour across Kashmir on Thursday.
On the occasion, a massive plantation drive was launched across the valley. The authorities have already announced the planting of lakhs of saplings of different varieties in educational institutions and other areas during the drive.
The people celebrated the day with happiness and zeal recognizing its social and spiritual significance. Navroz, signifies the renewal of nature, specifically substantial in the context of Kashmir’s agrarian culture.
According to farmers, the valley relies on the auspiciousness of growing seeds on Navroz expecting healthy and balanced plants plus numerous manufacturing. This idea highlights the deep-rooted link between the event as well as the farming techniques of the area.
In line with local traditions, farmers across the valley believe in the auspiciousness of sowing seeds on Navroz, anticipating healthy crops and bountiful production. This belief highlights the deep-rooted connection between the festival and the region’s agricultural practices.
Adding to the celebrations, a massive plantation drive has been initiated, with authorities aiming to plant thousands of saplings across educational institutions and other areas. This effort not only honours the spirit of Navroz but also addresses environmental concerns, aligning with the International Day of Forests observed on the same day.
Furthermore, the arrival of rain, known locally as “Navroz-Khund,” is hailed as a favourable omen, symbolizing prosperity and abundance for future endeavours.
Cooking traditional meals is another aspect of the celebrations. People like cooking various foods, such as Nadru (lotus stem) from Kashmir and other Wazwaan delicacies. On this day, people clean their homes and distribute sweets and dry fruits, such as candy and walnuts.
This tradition is most common among the Shia community. People give away gifts of all kinds to their friends, neighbours, and loved ones. In the valley, people enjoy themselves greatly on this day and send their best wishes to their loved ones.
