Ganderbal, Jan 06: A 24-year-old boy from central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district is on a mission to promote lesser-known places and bring them on a tourist map.
John Mohammad has fully dedicated himself to exploring and promoting hidden tourist places in Ganderbal.
Talking to Rising Kashmir, John said that on September 24, 2017, he created a social media page ‘Exploring Ganderbal’ and started posting pictures and videos from different parts of the district. “With time, I received a huge response from the people which inspired me to continue with it,” he said. “My main motive is to promote tourism so that the people who are directly or indirectly associated with this industry can earn their living in a better way.”
John said Ganderbal has great potential as far as adventure tourism is concerned. “We have famous trekking destinations here which include Kashmir’s great lakes, Mohandmarg and Lalmarg, and Durinar Heights, to name a few,” he said.
Till now, Mohammad said, he has “successfully attracted” thousands of visitors to the valley. “I am on a mission to explore more and more places and work for the development of tourism in Kashmir,” he said.
‘Exploring Ganderbal’ has more than two lakh followers across social media. The page also publishes an annual calendar in which photographs from different places of the Ganderbal district are showcased. The calendar has received an overwhelming response from people across the country, John said. “The aim of the calendar is to promote tourism and make people aware of the unexplored places of the district,” he added.
