Pulwama, Jan 30: Residents of the hilly CB Nath village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have appealed to the authorities for a new conductor and electric poles.
The people of Kanikot Khar Mohalla of CB Nath village said they suffer low voltage owing to poor supply lines feeding electricity to their area.
Abdul Gani Lone, a local, told Rising Kashmir that they have been requesting the authorities for a new conductor and electric poles for many years but to no avail. He said the affected area of around 11 households suffers due to low voltage.
“We are supplied electricity through a thin metallic conductor and a copper wire,” Lone said, adding that they have no electric poles and the conductor is hanging down from tree branches and rooftops of residential houses.
Another local said the transformer from which the electricity is being supplied is around one kilometre from the village.
“High resistance due to long distance and small diameter of the conductor results in low voltage,” he said, adding that the voltage is too low to serve its purpose.
The residents said they have to use other sources of electricity for lighting their houses. “We have agreements with the department and pay bills on time,” they said. “We appeal to the authorities to provide us with an aluminum conductor of standard diameter and new electric poles.”
Sarpanch CB Nath, Ali Mohammad Lone, said he has already taken note of the “genuine grievance”.
“We have proposed a new conductor and electric poles for the village in our plan,” the sarpanch said, adding that the proposal needs the approval of the concerned authorities.
