Jammu, July 22: Apni Party provincial president Jammu and former Minister S Manjit Singh has demanded five marla plots for landless people of Jammu and Kashmir’s urban areas.
“Lakhs of families in urban areas in Jammu are landless, or two to three families live in small rooms together with their children as they are financially poor,” he said while addressing a meeting cum joining programme which was organized by Shikha Bhardawaj in which a large number of women and youth joined the Apni Party, according to a party statement.
Prominent among those who joined Apni Party include Rahul Singh, Rohit, Vikas, Rohit Choudhry, Shakul, Hardik, Parveen, Rohit Kumar, Ranjeet, Rohit Rajput, Gorav, Happy, Pranav, Shubam, Archit, Gurdeep, Koshla, Sanjay, Parvinta Sharma, Sony, Poonam, Sakshi, Pryia, Jassi, Jatyia, Madhu, Suman, Kamlesh, Neha, Ripy, Neena Santosh, Kajal and others, the statement said.
While welcoming them into the party fold, Manjit Singh hoped that their joining would boost the morale of the party leaders, and workers to strengthen the party on the ground.
In his address, Singh referred to various issues of the public in Jammu plains including water, electricity, and development. However, he was mainly concerned about the ignorance of the urban poor who have no land or house to live in.
He said the government should also frame a policy for the urban poor who are financially poor and have no source to get land for them and construct a house. “The government should come out with a policy for the urban landless people and give them 5 marlas of land. These urban poor people live in extreme poverty and congested places with no option to move to an alternative place with their families. The overcrowded very small houses have an adverse impact on the development of children and women,” he said urging the government to look into the demand so that the people can equally be treated in urban as well as rural areas of Jammu & Kashmir.
