Budgam, Dec 16: In order to improve the garbage collection system in rural areas of Budgam district, the Deputy Commissioner Akshay Labroo on Saturday distributed 51 modern garbage collection vehicles to the rural blocks of Budgam.
The vehicles were handed over to the Block Development Officers (BDOs) during a distribution ceremony held at the Sports Stadium in Budgam.
Deputy Commissioner provided keys to the BDOs of 17 blocks and flagged off the vehicles to their respective areas.
He said the initiative aims to address the issue of littering in the rural areas of the Budgam district and ensure proper disposal of household-generated garbage.
“All these vehicles shall operate in the villages of Budgam for door-to-door garbage collection and benefit people to a large extent in ensuring the cleanliness of their surroundings,” Labroo said.
He said that it is also the beginning of a beautification campaign being taken to rural areas, which district administration Budgam has started from Budgam Town.
Deputy Commissioner of Budgam expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Rural Development Department and the Mechanical Department in ensuring the timely distribution of these vehicles.
“The District Administration of Budgam remains committed to infrastructure development and timely execution of projects for the convenience of the general public in both urban and rural areas of the district,” he said.
