Srinagar, Mar 28: As Eid-ul-Fitr approaches, the festive spirit is evident across the Kashmir Valley, with bustling markets and enthusiastic shoppers. People from various districts, including Srinagar, Ganderbal, Baramulla, and Anantnag, are flocking to the markets to buy new clothes, traditional bakery items, and other essentials in preparation for the grand celebration.
Over the past few days, the shopping frenzy has intensified, with businesses witnessing a significant rise in customers. According to Rising Kashmir, markets across the valley have been abuzz with activity as families prepare for Eid, one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar.
From Srinagar’s historic Lal Chowk and Residency Road to bustling marketplaces in other towns, shoppers can be seen filling the streets. The demand for clothing, footwear, and accessories has skyrocketed, with many stores offering special Eid discounts. Shopkeepers report that while many people took advantage of sales earlier in Ramadan, a bigger crowd is expected on Arfa, the eve of Eid.
“Eid shopping is incomplete without a visit to the market,” said a shopkeeper in Srinagar. “We have been witnessing a huge rush, and we expect even more customers as Eid gets closer.
Kashmir’s Eid celebrations are incomplete without traditional bakery items, and this year is no exception. Bakeries across the region are seeing an overwhelming demand for popular treats such as sheermal, baqerkhani, cakes, and cookies. People are queuing outside famous bakeries to buy these delicacies, which are an integral part of Eid celebrations in the valley.
“We have been working round the clock to meet the demands of our customers,” said a bakery owner in Srinagar. “People start placing bulk orders days in advance to avoid the last-minute rush.
Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, street vendors selling henna, bangles, and decorative items have set up stalls in different markets. Women and young girls can be seen excitedly purchasing colorful bangles and applying henna designs on their hands, a traditional custom before Eid.
Children, too, are enjoying the festive shopping, as toy shops and confectionery stalls attract young customers.
“This is a special time of the year for us,” said a young girl in Ganderbal. “We are buying new clothes and bangles, and we can’t wait to celebrate with our family and friends.”
With the increasing rush, traffic congestion has become a major challenge in Srinagar and other major towns. Authorities have deployed additional traffic personnel to regulate movement and prevent congestion in key market areas. Shoppers have been urged to plan their visits in advance and follow guidelines to ensure a smooth shopping experience.
Despite the rush, people are embracing the spirit of Eid with joy and enthusiasm, making last-minute purchases to celebrate the occasion with their loved ones.
