Srinagar, Mar 22: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday said that 52 ropeway projects are proposed for development as part of the Parvatmala initiative through the National Highways Logistics Management Ltd. (NHLML). The information was disclosed in response to question raised by Mr. Sajjad Shaheen in the Assembly.
In its written response, government said that the Administrative Council approved the development of ropeway projects in J&K under Decision No. 40/3/2022, dated 15.03.2022, and Government Order No. 373-PW(R&B) of 2023, dated 06.09.2023.
“Out of the proposed 52 ropeway projects, bids have been invited for the 1.05 km Shankaracharya Temple ropeway project, with bidding and clearance processes currently underway,” it said.
Meanwhile a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on 23rd April 2022 between the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and the Government of Jammu and Kashmir for the execution of ropeway projects.
However, delays have been acknowledged in the timely completion of certain projects. Notably, the 2.12 km Darshan Deopdi to Shivkhori ropeway project in Reasi district faces setbacks due to an ongoing court case, resulting in the annulment of bids by NHLML.
Bids were invited on 25.01.2025 by NHLML for the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for several other ropeway projects, including Baltal to Amarnath Cave, Anantnag: 11.60 km, Bhaderwah to Seojhdar, Doda: 8.80 km, Thajiwas Glacier, Sonamarg, Ganderbal: 1.60 km.
Additionally, bids for DPRs are being invited for Doodpathri from Parihas to Diskhal, Budgam, Sutharan to Tosemaidan, Budgam, Nashri Tunnel to Sanasar Ropeway, Ramban (3.00 km) and Karchiall to Wasamary Project
“The prefeasibility study for the Karchiall to Wasamarg ropeway project in Ramban District is currently ongoing through NHLML. The government emphasized its commitment to accelerating these projects to enhance connectivity and boost tourism in the region,” government said in a written reply.
