Srinagar, Nov 12: Three days after an Army Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was killed and three others were injured during an ongoing anti-terror operation in Kishtwar forests, top officials from the Army, Police, and intelligence agencies convened a security review on Tuesday.
Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, PRO Defense Jammu, confirmed to Rising Kashmir that the GOC White Knight Corps, along with the GOC CIF #Delta, J&K Police officials, and intelligence agencies, visited the Kishtwar sector to assess the situation.
During the meeting, he said GOC White Corps highlighted the need for close synergy among all stakeholders to eliminate remaining threats and commended their unwaver-ing commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.
“Anti-terror operation is still underway. More reinforcements have been rushed to-wards the encounter site,” he said, adding that no contact was established with hiding terrorists on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, police officials said that special troops have been deployed along the cor-don area and we are expecting soon that the terrorists behind the killing of 2 VDGs members, will be neutralized soon.
The police official said CASO was launched in adjacent villages of Munzla Dhar forests in Kishtwar and intensified the searches in the area with the support of sniffer dogs and aerial surveillance to track down the terrorists.
“Security forces are checking vehicles and frisking people at different points in the dis-trict and state of the art equipment including drones and high-end cameras are placed for surveillance,” he said.
The police officer said that the precautionary measures have also been implemented in built-up areas. Based on the evidence collected so far, we believe three to 3-4 terrorists were involved in the attack on VDGs,” he said.
The official said although there is no contact so far now, area domination exercises are underway in the entire belt. Area is being closely monitored. The area is mountainous and the forest is dense, making the operation both difficult and dangerous,” he said.
On Nov 10, one Army JCO was killed in action and 3 others were injured after terrorists opened fire on security forces conducting a search operation in Keshwan forest range of Kishtwar district
On Nov 07, terrorists shot dead two Village Defence Guards (VDG’s) in Munzla Dhar forests of Kishtwar after both were kidnapped from a nearby forest area.
