JAMMU, Nov 12: The first budget session of the Legislative Assembly of the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) will be held in Jammu in February next year. The budget is expected to be the most people-friendly one presented by the National Conference (NC) government.
The J&K UT Government has also directed all concerned departments to sub-mit their budget estimates by November 15.
The last budget session in the erstwhile State of J&K was held in 2014 under the BJP-PDP coalition government.
This upcoming session, however, will be the first to take place without a Legis-lative Council, which ceased to exist after J&K was reorganized into a Union Territory on August 5, 2019.
According to highly placed government sources, the NC government aims to present a budget that fulfills its promises made in the election manifesto.
In the first budget session, the NC government will propose to provide 13 kg of ration per person, in addition to sugar, for the people of J&K. Currently, the ration distribution is 4 kg per person, and sugar has not been provided.
Additionally, 200 free units of power will be proposed for consumers in J&K. The government will also offer relief to daily wagers, as promised during the NC’s election campaign and in its manifesto.
Furthermore, the NC government will propose a provision of Rs 5,000 for el-derly women in each family across J&K.
