Baramulla, Oct 18: Cracking down on illegal timber smuggling, the Sopore police on Tuesday day nabbed five timber smugglers from Panzla Rafiabad area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. The police officials also seized large quantities of illegally felled timber from their possession.
A police official told Rising Kashmir that acting on a tip-off about the timber smuggling, a police party of Police Station Panzla headed by SHO Panzla Inspector Parveen Kumar, raided a specific place and recovered 107 feets illicit timber from the premises of the detained timber smugglers.
Police identified the accused as Abdul Aziz Sheikh son of Ghulam Ahmad, Ghulam Mohiudin son of Muhammad Abdullah, Shabir Ahmad Sheikh, Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh Sons of Muhammad Yaseen Sheikh and Khazir Muhammad Sheikh son of Ghulam Ahmad Sheikh, all residents of Takiya Panzla Rafiabad.
The official said that all the accused found involved in the commission of crime were arrested.
“A case FIR No. 61/2022, U/S 379 IPC, 26 Forest Act has been registered at PS Panzla and further investigation into the matter is going on,” the police official said.
The official further added that Sopore Police vows to continue its strict action against timber smugglers, so that green gold can be saved for the future generations.
