Srinagar, Dec 24: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO) organized Gram Panchayat Sensitisation Programme for 3 Blocks (Beerwah, Khag & Sukhnag) Sarpanch & Panchayat Secretary in Phase-II at Regional Extension Training Centre Kashmir of Budgam district under the guidance of Assistant Commissioner Development Budgam on Saturday.
About 70 Sarpanches, Panchas and Panchayat Samiti Members participated. Files and pamphlets about the development of BIS standards were distributed among participants to enhance their knowledge about Standards in their routine day-to-day lives.
Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer, BIS-JKBO, gave the welcome address and an overview of the working of BIS to the participants. He talked about the role of standards in Gram Panchayats. He said that BIS is the quality ecosystem of the country and caters to the needs of end users through Conformity Assessment Schemes which are based on the quality, safety and performance parameters laid down in Indian standards. He said that ISI Mark is a means for providing a third-party guarantee of quality, safety and reliability of products and services to the consumer. He also demonstrated the ‘BIS Care App’.
Later, Uzair Qadri, a Resource Person presented a detailed overview of standardization with a focus on Indian standards related to day-to-day life, ISI Mark Certification and Laboratory facilities to support certification. During the program, the participants were apprised of the significance of Standards to procure quality goods for any development activity or personal needs. The participants also downloaded the BIS Care app and learned to use it for verifying the authenticity of genuine ISI Mark and Hallmarking through the BIS Care App and tried various products to validate their authenticity.
The participants also shared their views after the workshop about their experiences and how they can effectively use the information they have gained through this programme. Participants were amazed by knowing that they could directly raise a complaint or concern at the BIS Care App and check misuse of standard marks. The entire audience thanked the organizers for enlightening them on the newer knowledge they have gained on the BIS marking and the means to check their authenticity. They called for more such programs in their respective villages.
