Srinagar, Mar 18: People’s Conference President Sajad Gani Lone, who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from the north Kashmir parliamentary constituency, Baramulla, on Monday asserted that he would emerge as a strong advocate for the people of Jammu & Kashmir in Parliament.
Addressing party workers in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, Lone said the representation of north Kashmir’s people would significantly increase in Parliament. He criticised the Members of Parliament from the National Conference, saying they had not sufficiently advocated for the interests of the Kashmir Valley.
Lone pointed out that the NC MPs from north Kashmir had only raised five questions in the last five years, none of which addressed the concerns of the people of Jammu & Kashmir. He highlighted issues such as the denial of passports to Kashmiris due to alleged involvement of their relatives in terror activities, which he claimed the NC MPs had failed to address.
The PC president criticised previous leaders, accusing them of engaging solely in politics without tangible development outcomes for north Kashmir. He cited examples such as the establishment of the Government Medical College (GMC) and infrastructure projects, alleging that these leaders had initially ridiculed his proposals but later attempted to take credit for them.
Assuring the people of north Kashmir of his commitment to their development, Sajad pledged to prioritise horticulture and tourism in the region, citing their vast potential for growth.
Responding to allegations of being affiliated with the BJP, Lone refuted the claims and accused the opposition of hypocrisy for forming alliances with the BJP in the past. He expressed confidence that the people of north Kashmir would elect him to Parliament to “effectively” represent their interests.
Meanwhile, according to a PC statement issued here, Sajad on Monday convened a series of significant meetings of six block committees in Handwara Constituency. The meetings, held in two separate sessions, brought together Block Upper Rajwar-A, Upper Rajwar-B, Drugmulla-B, Lower Rajwar, Handwara Town, Jaggerpora Kawari & Vodhpora.
The primary objective of the meetings was to meticulously strategise and chart out plans for the upcoming Parliamentary elections, with a keen focus on ensuring comprehensive preparations and meeting all ground-level requirements effectively, the party said.
During the meeting, the PC President emphasised the critical importance of amplifying the public’s voice on all relatable platforms, ensuring genuine representation of their concerns and aspirations.
Recognising the importance of understanding the everyday challenges faced by the common citizen, Lone reaffirmed the party’s unwavering commitment to meeting the expectations of the electorate and restoring the lost dignity of the people. “This vision aims to bolster developmental works and endeavours focusing on strengthening the local economy,” he said.
The PC President urged the members to actively engage in public outreach endeavours and effectively communicate the party’s public-centric agenda among the local populace.
