Srinagar, Nov 06: Moderate rain lashed plains while upper reaches experienced fresh snowfall for the second consecutive day on Sunday, while Meteorological Department has predicted improvements in prevailing weather conditions from Tuesday onward.
Director Indian Meteorological Centre Kashmir, Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that as expected higher reaches experienced light snowfall on Sunday and rain in plains.
“There is a possibility of more snowfall and rains in the Kashmir region during the next 24 hours. We are expecting improvement in prevailing weather conditions from Tuesday onward,” he said.
Lotus said higher reaches including Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Bandipora, Kupwara, and Shopian experienced light snowfall, while rains lashed the plains. Overall weather will remain “erratic” with occasional snowfall at scattered places till November 8,” he said.
As per MeT officials, ski resort Gulmarg recorded four to five inches of fresh snowfall, two to three inches of snowfall was recorded in Sonamrg, while eight to nine inches on Sadna Top in Kupwara. Two to three inches were recorded in Pahalgam, seven inches in Gurez, Tulail, and five to six inches in Peer Ki Gali along the historic Mughal road.
While rains began in parts of the Valley Saturday night, however, its intensity increased, especially in north and central Kashmir, and continued till late Sunday evening.
Following the inclement weather, a massive dip was witnessed in day and night temperatures in the valley.
Summer capital Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 5.2 degrees Celsius and maximum of 12.7 degrees Celsius.
Ski resort Gulmarg in Baramulla was the coldest place in Kashmir as night temperature was recorded at minus 3.6 degrees Celsius and 4.2°C as the its maximum temperature
Health resort Pahalgam recorded 10.5 °C as maximum temperature and a minimum of 2.1 °C degrees. Qazigund recorded 11.5°C and 5.5° C as maximum and minimum temperatures respectively.
Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded maximum temperatures of 12.4°C, while minimum temperatures settled at 4.2 °C.
