Srinagar, Nov 06: There will be two-way traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu highway on Monday and no vehicle will be allowed after cut-off timings, officials said on Sunday.
As per the traffic advisory issued by Traffic Department Kashmir subject to fair weather and road clearance, light motor vehicles (LMV) passenger and private cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar and vice-versa on Monday.
“Traffic Control Unit (TCU) Jammu and Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic. No vehicle shall be allowed to move before and after cut-off timings,” it said.
Later heavy motor vehicles (HMV) shall be allowed from Navyug Tunnel towards Jammu after assessing the road and traffic situation on NH-44. TCU Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the HMVs.
Similarly, on Sonamarg-Kargil road, subject to fair weather and good road condition, vehicular movement shall be allowed from both sides of the highway.
People were advised to undertake a journey on NHW-44 (Jammu-Srinagar national highway) only after confirming the status of the road from traffic control units.
Earlier the strategic highway remained closed for more than 12 hours and was reopened on Saturday evening by the authorities.
As per the Traffic advisory from Friday evening till Saturday 5 pm, Jammu-Srinagar NH 44 remained blocked for several hours due to a fruit-loaded truck breakdown on the middle of the road at Kunfer Nallah (Chanderkote), blocked for 40 minutes at Wagon due to earth cutting by CPPL.
“C-N Tunnel closed for 56 mins and NAVYUG Tunnel closed for 02 hrs 22 mins by Tunnel authorities, making the total blockage of 05 hrs,01 mins. There was the breakdown of 06 HMVS at various locations on NH-44,” it said.
