Srinagar, May 09:In a significant crackdown on the narco-terror network operating in the valley, Jammu and Kashmir Police have apprehended three smugglers and seized a substantial quantity of narcotics and cash in Baramulla district.
Addressing the media in Baramulla, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amod Ashok Nagpure stated that the police had dismantled a narco module, resulting in the arrest of three smugglers and the recovery of contraband worth Rs 50 crore, along with cash amounting to Rs 12,63,500.
The operation was initiated based on specific intelligence received by the Police Station Uri on May 8th, indicating the involvement of Mehmood Ahmad Najar and Sajad Ahmad Malik in narcotics smuggling. Following this information, a case (FIR No. 35/2024 U/S 8/21, 29 NDPS ACT) was registered, leading to their detention and subsequent disclosure of the hidden contraband and cash at Churanda.
With the assistance of the Army, a joint operation was conducted, resulting in the recovery of the smuggled substances and cash, as per the revelations of the accused. Additionally, Fayaz Ahmad Hajam was detained during interrogation, leading to the recovery of further contraband and cash from his residence.
The seized contraband, weighing 7.800 kilograms and valued at approximately Rs 50 crore, has been linked to handlers based in Pakistan.
SSP Nagpure affirmed that the investigation would be thorough, ensuring that elections proceed in a free and fair manner. He also assured that action against the main handlers would be swift, with ongoing investigations to uncover further details.
“On receiving this information, the Police Party accompanied by the Magistrate and with assistance of the Army, searched the spot and recovered the contraband substance and cash on disclosure of the accused,” he said.
About anything related to election angle to the development, he said they will investigate the matter thoroughly and will ensure the election is held in a free and fair manner.
“We have got the vital leads and will be soon acting on the main handlers. Further investigation is going on in the matter,” he said.
