Srinagar, Apr 25: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, strongly condemned the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and extended the full support of the United Opposition to any action the Central Government chooses to take in response.
During his visit to Srinagar on Friday, Gandhi met victims of the attack, as well as Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who briefed him on the current situation and the government’s response.
“I came to Kashmir to understand what is happening and to extend my support,” Gandhi told reporters. “The people of J&K have united in condemning this horrific act and are standing firmly with the nation.”
Gandhi, who visited one of the injured tourists, said, “I couldn’t meet all the affected families as many have returned home. But I want them to know—my love and affection are with them. The entire nation is united in grief and solidarity.”
He also emphasised the need for unity across India, warning against the divisive intentions of terrorism.
“The motive behind such attacks is to divide society, to pit brother against brother. It is essential that every Indian stands together to defeat this agenda,” he said.
“It’s disheartening to see people targeting our Kashmiri brothers and sisters. This is not the time for blame—it’s the time to stand united and fight terrorism together.”
Rahul Gandhi said that the United Opposition had held a meeting with the government on Thursday.
“We unequivocally condemned this act of terror and expressed our complete support for any steps the government deems necessary,” he said.
He added that he had assured both the Chief Minister and the LG of his and his party’s full support in handling the situation.
In addition to his official meetings, the LoP also met with delegations from the trade, travel, and tourism sectors, and listened to their concerns in the wake of the attack. He also met representatives of a students’ association, who reportedly informed him about alleged harassment faced by Kashmiri students in other parts of the country.
Meanwhile, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today at Raj Bhavan. He was accompanied by Congress MP KC Venugopal, Congress MLAs Ghulam Ahmad Mir and Tariq Hameed Karra and Rajya Sabha MP Dr Syed Naseer Hussain. The discussions covered various aspects of heinous terror attack in Pahalgam.
In a post on X, LG stated: “Met the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Shri Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Shri KC Venugopal, Congress MLAs Shri Ghulam Ahmad Mir & Shri Tariq Hameed Karra and RS MP Dr Syed Naseer Hussain at Raj Bhavan. We discussed various aspects related to heinous terror attack in Pahalgam”.
