Srinagar, Oct 21:From north to south, dozens took to the streets on Monday evening, holding candlelight vigils to condemn the innocent killings in Gagangeer, central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
The vigils aimed to express solidarity with the victims of a deadly attack that claimed the lives of a doctor and six non-local labourers on Sunday evening. Protesters, holding placards reading “Stop Innocent Killings” and “Stop Bloodshed in Kashmir,” marched through various towns, demanding justice for the victims.
“This act of violence is a grave injustice and a violation of humanity,” one protester stated. “These innocent killings are a tragedy and must be condemned by all.”
In Kupwara district, a large candlelight vigil attracted participants from various civil society groups, while similar protests were reported in Baramulla, Ganderbal, Bandipora, Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam, and other areas across the Kashmir Valley. The gatherings united the community in mourning and calling for an end to violence.
Participants also demanded strict action against those responsible for the attack. “This is inhuman and shocking. Six, seven people lost their lives while simply performing their duties. Those behind this heinous act must be taught a lesson,” said one attendee at the Kupwara vigil.
The attack occurred on Sunday evening when unidentified gunmen ambushed the doctor and labourers working at a construction site in Gagangeer. This incident is considered one of the deadliest terror attacks in recent times and has sparked widespread condemnation across the valley, with citizens advocating for peace and justice.
