Srinagar, Jan 16: In a recent statement, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha commended the positive impact of the Smart City project on the urban development of Srinagar, hailing the city as a model for transformation in India. Speaking at the inauguration of the renovated Habba Kadal bridge in Shehr e Khas, LG Sinha expressed his satisfaction with the city’s progress.
“Srinagar has emerged as the epitome of urban transformation and is now a topic of discussion across the country,” remarked Sinha during discussions with reporters. He specifically acknowledged the dedication of the officers involved in the Smart City Project, emphasizing the city’s favorable comparison to other urban centers in India.
Highlighting the global recognition of Srinagar’s achievements, Sinha noted that videos of the city’s New Year celebrations have become more viral worldwide than those of metropolitan cities. Grateful for the support from the city’s residents, he described the recently renovated Habba Kadal bridge as a significant gift to the people, predicting an improvement in the quality of life, especially for those in Shehr e Khas.
Responding to inquiries about whether Srinagar had been neglected in the past, LG Sinha refuted the claim, stating that while it is not accurate to say the city was neglected, significant advancements have been made, with further improvements anticipated. Providing insight into ongoing projects, Sinha announced the commencement of phase two of the Jhelum Riverfront project. With an investment of Rs 17.85 crore, this phase aims to develop a 5-km stretch along the river, incorporating 24 ghats. The LG expressed confidence that this initiative would contribute to enhancing the living standards of Srinagar’s residents.
