Baramulla, Jan 16: General Officer Commanding (GOC) 15 Corps, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, expressed optimism about the current situation in Kashmir, emphasizing that while progress has been made, there is still a journey ahead for further development.
Talking to reporters in Baramulla on the side-lines of the function in Baramulla where J&K Lieutenant Governor (LG) formally inaugurated General Bipin Rawat Stadium, he said Kashmir is moving ahead and there are bright days and a very bright future ahead for the youth of Kashmir.
“Situation in Kashmir is very good and yet there is a little distance, we have to move forward,” he added.
About narco smuggling, the GOC said that collaborative efforts of the Army with the administration and police to combat narco-terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. He said the active involvement of the military in addressing security challenges and maintaining stability in the area.
“We are trying to control the narco-terrorism in collaboration with other agencies,” he said.
During the inauguration of the stadium, GOC also expressed the significance of the event, describing it as a “big day” and a source of pride for Jammu and Kashmir as well as the entire nation.
He highlighted the honour in naming the stadium after General Bipin Rawat, emphasizing Rawat’s special connection with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, having commanded the 19 Infantry Division in Baramulla.
General Ghai conveyed the Indian Army’s commitment to contribute actively to the development of the Bipin Rawat Stadium. The Indian Army will play its part in enhancing the stadium’s facilities, ensuring its continual improvement for the benefit of the community,’ he said.
In December 2023, the stadium situated on the foothills of Janbazpora hillock in Baramulla, the LG administration named it after the first CDS of India, General Bipin Rawat by LG who also served as the GoC of 19 infantry Division also known as Dagger Division based in the north Kashmir’s border town.
General Bipin Rawat, the former chief of defence staff (CDS), died along with 13 other persons in an air crash on December 8, 2021. General Rawat had served in Kashmir, especially in north Kashmir in various capacities
