Srinagar, Nov 19: G.M. Shaheen, a prominent political leader, called on Union Minister of State for Agriculture, Ramnath Thakur to address pressing issues affecting the agriculture and horticulture sectors in Jammu and Kashmir.
The discussion focused on several critical topics, with a particular emphasis on enhancing the region’s agricultural infrastructure and addressing export challenges, Shaheen said in a statement issued here.
The primary issues raised by Shaheen included overcoming the logistical and regulatory hurdles in exporting apples from Srinagar to international markets, the statement said, adding, “As one of the region’s key agricultural products, the successful export of apples is vital for both the economy and the livelihoods of local farmers.”
Another topic of conversation was the expansion of the mini fruit mandi (market) in the Watergam area of the Kreri-Wagoora constituency, as well as similar initiatives in Palhalan and Pattan. These markets play an essential role in facilitating trade and supporting local farmers, and Shaheen called for infrastructural improvements to enhance efficiency and market access.
Minister Thakur assured Shaheen that the government would prioritise these issues and work towards their prompt resolution, the statement said.
Meanwhile, Shaheen extended a warm invitation to Minister Thakur to visit Jammu and Kashmir. The Agriculture Minister expressed his gratitude for the invitation, affirming his willingness to visit and engage directly with the local stakeholders to better understand their needs and explore opportunities for further development, the statement added.
