Srinagar, Feb 03: Apni Party Chief Spokesperson Muntazir Mohiuddin on Monday expressed his deep concern over the proposed privatisation of power distribution in Jammu and Kashmir. He urged the government not to proceed with the proposal, as it would surely have an adverse impact on the people who are already grappling with a range of economic challenges.
The Central government, under the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, has decided to privatize the distribution of power across Union Territories, believing that privatization will improve the operational and financial efficiency of power distribution utilities.
In a statement issued here, Mohiuddin said, “It seems that the government is preparing to move forward with plans to privatize power distribution after the implementation of smart metering. The proposed privatization of power distribution will surely increase power tariffs, overburdening the people of J&K who are already grappling with significant economic challenges, including growing unemployment and inflation.”
Urging government not to proceed with proposal of privatization of the power distribution, Muntazir Mohiuddin said, “Apni Party humbly requests Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha to intervene in the matter, ensuring that the proposed privatization of power distribution is not pursued, as it will have a significant negative impact on the already worsening economy of the people in J&K.”
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir will oppose any effort to move forward with the privatization of power distribution in the region,” Muntazir further said.
