Srinagar, Jan 08: Minister for Education, Social Welfare and Health, Sakina Itoo on Wednesday said seeking “cheap fame” would not solve the reservation issue in Jammu and Kashmir.
She said the issue of reservation is an important one, but making it a spectacle and seeking cheap fame is not the right approach.
The minister said the Chief Minister has already formed a committee to address the reservation issue. “Now, we must allow the committee to do its work without turning it into a publicity stunt,” she said.
“Going to the press for cheap fame and taking photos will not help anyone. Whoever is involved in this, whether it’s the opposition or others, is just seeking attention,” she added.
Sakina said she has never believed in cheap fame. “When your intentions are sincere, your work will speak for itself. If you are focused on helping people and doing what is right, Allah will guide and support you,” she remarked.
She added, “Standing somewhere for a photo or making a show will not benefit the people. People are educated and aware; they understand what is happening, even if they are not formally educated.”
Itoo said even her party colleague and Member Parliament (MP) Srinagar, Ruhullah Mehdi was involved in the protest, adding that she had told him this approach was not the right one.
“Has Omar Abdullah Sahib a magic wand to solve everything,” she asked, pointing out that simply taking photos and claiming to exert pressure on the government would not be effective. The minister also said the government was not under any pressure.
