Srinagar, Sept 10: The PET Scan and MRI services have resumed at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Srinagar (Soura) following technical snag, officials said.
“The general public is informed that due to technical snag the PET Scan & MRI facility was halted. Now the technical snags are rectified and the services stand resumed. The patients can contact the respective departments for further details,” said Medical Superintendent SKIMS.
The MRI machine was having problems with the MRI Chiller, which is important as it helps to maintain the cold head of the MRI machine which in turn maintains Helium level which is required to cool and check the magnet pressure.
“All this is important for the smooth running of the MRI machine. Few days back one of the compressors of MRI Chiller and a few rellay switches got non-functional resulting in stopping the MRI machine,” he said.
On Monday, Siemens Engineer replaced the compressor and rellay switches and made the MRI machine functional. “The Siemens Company had been asking for rates for a maintenance contract which had to be negotiated.”
The MS said a fresh comprehensive maintenance contract for said machine will be issued within two days which will make the machine functional for next five years. Furthermore, the process for procurement of a new MRI is going on and will be procured soon.
“The PETCT machine which was undergoing repairs and maintenance for the last two weeks and was not working has been repaired and started functioning from last week fully. All those patients who have been waiting for their scans are being contacted telephonically by the department as per the serial number,” the MS said.
