Srinagar, Dec 03: Union Minister for Rural Development, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasan on Tuesday informed the Lok Sabha that over 43,000 Women have been empowered in Jammu and Kashmir through Lakhpati Didi Initiative.

The Minister was sharing details about the success of the Lakhpati Didi initiative in J&K while responding to a query in the Lok Sabha.

He said that 43,050 women in J&K have been empowered through the program, which is part of the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM).

The Union Minister said that the Lakhpati Didi initiative focuses on helping rural women achieve an annual income of at least ₹1 lakh. Under the DAY-NRLM scheme, women are organized into Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and supported through capacity building and financial assistance, he said.

In J&K, 43,050 women have already benefitted from the initiative, which aims to uplift rural women economically and socially, the Minister said.

He said that the program is part of the broader efforts to alleviate poverty and improve the quality of life for rural areas.

Speaking on the impact of the initiative nationwide, the Minister said that the government has commissioned studies to evaluate its effectiveness. According to these studies, SHG members have seen a 19% increase in income and a 28% rise in savings.

The government is committed to expand the program and ensure that women in rural areas continue to benefit from such transformative schemes, he added.
