SRINAGAR, JULY 04: In preparation for the Amarnath Yatra 2023, the Indian Army has maintained a close vigilance along the twin routes and conducted special ski patrolling to secure the paths, according to officials.
Under “Operation Shiva,” the Army, along with other security agencies, has taken the lead in ensuring a safe pilgrimage by setting up communication systems and surveillance measures.
A senior Army officer told Rising Kashmir that the Ski Patrol, carried out by the highly skilled “Chinar Warriors” specializing in “Avalanche and Mountain Rescue,” played a vital role in dominating and securing the Yatra routes. The joint efforts of the Army, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and Jammu and Kashmir Police are aimed at facilitating a peaceful and harmonious Amarnath Yatra 2023, ensuring the security and serenity of the Yatris.
The Army teams are strategically deployed across both higher and lower reaches of the Yatra routes, keeping a close watch on any unusual movements. Additionally, a multi-layered communication infrastructure has been established to assist civil administration and provide reliable communication facilities for the pilgrims.
“To overcome network challenges in the high-altitude areas, the Army has introduced Public Calling Desks at multiple locations along the routes. Yatris are now able to stay connected with their families across the country, even from the heights of the Himalayas,” the officer said.
The officer also stated that they have also established a Robust Digital Wireless Grid, operating at 15,000 feet to provide seamless communication during the Yatra.
As part of their contingency planning, the Army has constructed a new Helipad near the Holy Cave in June, ensuring swift response and evacuation in case of emergencies. The induction of specialist engineering earth-moving equipment via Chinook Helicopter at an altitude of 11,500 feet in Panjtarni showcases the dedication to track maintenance and improvement for the Yatra.
During the ongoing Yatra, the Army has already extended assistance to dozens of pilgrims by facilitating communication with their families through the Public Calling Desks at various locations enroute. Their prompt response and advanced infrastructure were highlighted when a Yatri suffered a fall near Sangam Base along the Baltal axis, and both Army and SDRF were immediately deployed for rescue and medical aid.
He said that the situation is being closely monitored, and the Army has assured that all emergency services and equipment are ready to handle any situation that may arise during the Amarnath Yatra. With their concerted efforts, the Army continues to play a pivotal role in ensuring a secure and serene pilgrimage experience for all Yatris.
