Home Minister Amit Shah on his three day visit has made it clear that national security is a priority in Jammu & Kashmir. His visit to the Border Outpost “Vinay” in Kathua district in Jammu where search operations are on due to the terrorist encounter in Hira Nagar shows his concern about the security preparedness. He interacted with the Border Security Force personnel and paid tributes to the Assistant Commandant Vinay Prasad who was martyred at the International Border(IB) in the line of duty in 2019.During the visit the Home Minister inaugurated the newly constructed infrastructure meant to improve the border management and help the BSF personnel to perform their duties professionally. These facilities include women’s barracks, high mast lights besides a composite border outpost costing rs.47.22 crore. These facilities will strengthen the operational capacities and improve the working conditions of the deployed personnel. In his address to the security personnel the Home Minister said that the visit to the outpost has given him a sense of the difficult conditions under which the security forces are operating. He also acknowledged the challenges faced by the deployed security personnel in the extreme weather conditions, difficult terrain. Amit Shah is right, the BSF is the first line of defence who are guarding borders of the nation with distinction. It is pertinent to mention that the Home Minister has made it clear that technological enhancement is the focus of the government when it comes to guarding the national borders. Substantiating the policy of the Indian Government, he said that 26 technology based initiatives are being tested that includes the anti-drone systems, tunnel detection technology and advanced electronic surveillance Kathua has been targeted by Pakistan and it is repeatedly patronising the infiltration of terrorist in the sector to destabilise Jammu that the Rising Kashmir has continuously underlined. Deployment of the electronic surveillance system models in tandem with strengthening the local intelligence is an imperative. There is an urgent need to put in order the traditional intelligence gathering networks and then sharpen the intelligence mechanism by integrating it with the technologically advanced systems so that operational results are derived and the supply lines and sneaking points are blocked. The Home Minister has said that in the years to come the security personnel deployed along the entire India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders will be equipped with the latest technology to reduce the operational difficulties in the border management. Let us hope that the national security challenges that are emerging in the Jammu region will be reduced and the noose will be tightened to neutralise the terror modules. Before the arrival of the Home Minister, Kathua operation was going on to nab the terrorists who had sneaked in and at the same time Pakistan violated the ceasefire in the Poonch sector on the eve of Home Minister’s arrival. There is a need to put an end to Pakistan’s policy of asymmetrical warfare as it knows it cannot indulge in the traditional warfare with India. Pakistan needs to be paid in the same coin by raising the cost on it so that its policy of hit and run through its radical mercenaries is aborted well in time and security of our common people and security personnel is ensured. One thing is clear that the Home Minister must have gained a first hand information about the ground situation prevailing in the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir. This will certainly help to upgrade the national security grid and defeat the nefarious designs of our enemies.
